For Class

I was up all night putting together an oral report for my technical writing class.  I woke up just in time the next morning to put on my suit and head off to school, only to find it raining outside.  Not owning an umbrella, I exited the building to begin my long, wet walk to campus.

After spending almost no time at all in the rain, a man pulled over and offered me a ride.  He had pulled over to give a stranger a ride, but to the surprise of both of us, we both knew each other from high school.

This good friend of mine, who I hadn't seen in some time, was kind enough to drop me off right in front of the building I was supposed to give my presentation in, even though it meant he had to drive back to the Marriott Center parking lot to park his car.

I was tremendously grateful for the small, meaningful act of service rendered to me.

Someone redefined service for me today by striking up a conversation with me after Men's Chorus rehearsal. I'd never met him before, but now I know a little bit more about him, and we found that we have some things in common. It's one more friendly face I can recognize both in the chorus and around campus.

“a kid talked to me in my math class. It made me feel more comfortable and welcome.”

“This morning my English teacher Rachel Lewis threw a party for us.  Afterwards, I was in such a great mood that I walked to my next class smiling.  Almost everyone I passed returned the smile and it made me happier! I love how people are so willing to be friendly with a little encouragement.”

“My friend took notes for me while I was out of town.”

    ----------------------------

“A friend of mine in a class I have came and gave me help in a lab when he didn’t’ have to.  He took time out of his day to meet me in the lab.”

    ----------------------------

“A friend helped me with an English paper.”

    ----------------------------

“Today in Comms the girl next to me let me borrow her pencil all hour! AND she filled me in on the notes I missed when I was sick!”

    ----------------------------

“My friend let me borrow his notes to help me study for an exam this week.”

    ----------------------------

“Someone was willing to take time and help mo complete a project.”

    ----------------------------

“I didn’t have a lot of friends in my classes this semester.  I had so many people introduce themselves and be really friendly.  It made this semester so much easier.”

    ----------------------------

“I was late for class and I had to print my paper.  I went to the printer and didn’t have enough money! I asked someone if I could use their card, and they let me print using their money.  It helped me so much, because I got to class and turned in the paper.”
